Mikrotec scans all incoming and outgoing email that passes through our servers for viruses and malicious code. If it finds a virus, it removes it and sends the Mikrotec user that was the intended recipient, or the Mikrotec user that was the sender, a notice. Our filter is a quality product that works very quickly considering the massive volume of email we process every day. We update the filter quite frequently and very frequently during virus alerts. However, like any Antivirus, it cannot provide%100 protection %100 of the time. You still need a quality antivirus because, as you're about to see, emails are not the only way of getting a virus.

First of all, the chances that the person that supposedly gave you a virus actually knew that they were sending you a virus are about 1000 to 1. The vast majority would never knowingly send out viruses. Once a virus invades a computer, it can gather email addresses on that machine and start sending itself out to other people's computers and that process is usually completely invisible to the infected user. That's how viruses spread. They duplicate themselves and send themselves wherever they can, as many times as they can. So most of the time, it's probably not a good idea to go accusing people of knowingly sending you a virus.

Unfortunately, no. Reason? There are almost as many ways to get a virus as there are ways to interact with the Internet. You can get a virus from emails; visiting websites with malicious code; chatting on IRC (Internet Relay Chat); downloading a program, picture, song or movie; opening a cute greeting card sent by your own mother... you name it, you can probably get a virus from it. What this means is that you need to get your computer protected, and fast. If you use the Internet a lot, and you've never had an antivirus program, or never updated the one you have, your computer could be teaming with viruses infecting hundreds, if not thousands of other computers all across the globe.

You cannot. It works directly on our mail servers. Viruses cost companies, like ours and like yours, billions of dollars annually worldwide. We are making the effort to protect you, and everyone else that interacts with you on the Internet just a little bit safer while keeping the costs associated with connecting to the Internet down.
